Our Activities

PENHA seeks to reduce poverty and marginalisation among pastoralist communities through the following activities:

  • capacity building, training and education delivery for pastoralist communities with consideration of gender equality
  • providing also training to relevant local NGOs and CBOs, line ministries etc to improve the effectiveness of service delivery for pastoralist communities.
  • establishing fora for pastoralist communities as a base for their social empowerment
  • Creating small-income generating and micro-credit opportunities and facilitating market links for pastoralists
  • action-oriented research that also enhances the utilisation of indigenous expertise.
  • awareness rising and lobbying of pastoralist issues to positively change broad perceptives that pastoralism is an acient way of life that collides with current development efforts
  • publishing research findings, reports and books, and distributing these widely among relevant stakeholders including policy makers as an important tool of awareness rising towards pastoralist issues.
  • networking with related organisations, ministries, the academia and other stakeholders for the exchange of information, experience and ideas on pastoralist issues
