The Pastoralist Environmental Association in Kassala State (PEAKS)

The Pastoralist Environment Association in Kassala State (PEAKS) is a community led local organization operating in the Kassala State of Eastern Sudan. One of PEAKS major aims is to improve the livelihood of pastoralists in Eastern Sudan by addressing the serious lack of animal food there. This is caused by rain scarcity in the long drought seasons which affects this area as well as many other parts of Sudan.

PEAKS was formed officially in 2008 and is registered as a community based organisation under Sudanese Law. It has its own governing council, secretariat, fee paying associate members and supporters, a bank account and logo.
PEAKS Objectives:
  • Serving the pastoralists’ interest by studying their social and economic problems and endeavouring to solve them
  • Working to enhance the pastoralists’ life through training workshops and awareness-raising campaigns among them.
  • Helping pastoralist women to increase their income through training workshops within wider women empowerment projects.
  • Working to improve education at the grass-roots level.
  • Working to improve human and animal health.
  • Building up PEAKS capacity in research, proposal writing, fundraising, management and communication.

The RBC Network.

The Resource Based Conflicts (RBC) Network is a coalition of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) that seeks to support peace building and conflict prevention efforts in the Horn and East Africa region by partnering with like-minded organisations and seeking innovative strategies for equipping CSOs with the right skills and tools to be able to make a difference in the conflict prone areas of the region. A section of CSOs from Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Somalia, Eritrea and Sudan have collectively set up a regional network as a strategy for building synergies towards a coordinated approach for tackling regional conflicts as well as managing the impacts of existing Resource Based Conflicts (RBCs) in the Horn of Africa and East Africa.

Futures Agriculture

Future Agricultures Consortium is a multidisciplinary and independent learning alliance of academic researchers and practitioners involved in African agriculture. We aim to encourage dialogue and the sharing of good practice by policy makers and opinion formers in Africa on the role of agriculture in broad based growth. Collectively we offer a responsive mode of working, so we can engage with policy debates and issues as they arise
.

Currently the Consortium consists of over 20 researchers from African and UK institutions focussing on Kenya, Ethiopia and Malawi. However, in our new phase of work, 2010 - 2013, FAC will expand to work in over ten countries across Africa, involving over 50 researchers from African and UK institutions.

Together4Africa

Together 4 Africa is a coalition of UK registered charities working with local grassroots organisations in Africa. Members work together as ‘a partnership of equals’ for a common purpose. Through collaboration, the sharing of resources, knowledge and skills we aim to strengthen the financial and organisational capacity and impact of our African partners and focus the public’s attention on the huge difference our partners’ organisations make in their respective fields
.

We also want to bring to the attention of the public, Trusts and other service and financial providers, the excellent and cost effective work done by the Trustees, volunteers and other core people of small UK charities, without whom their African partners would either not exist, or would struggle to offer any of the improvements they are presently making to the lives of thousands of people.
