PENHA is a charity registered in England since 1992 with the Charity Commission Registration Number 1038957 and a (non-profit making) Company limited by guarantee, incorporated in England number 2658932. It has a board comprising of eight trustees along with the Director of the organisation. The board meets two or three times a year, and is responsible for submitting the Annual Report and Accounts to the Charity Commission and to Companies House. The Director is supported by a team in the London Office and also by the country chapters in the region – at present in Somaliland, Sudan, Uganda and partners in Ethiopia. Some of the country chapters have a local advisory board.
PENHA believes that its relationship with local non-governmental and community-based organisations in the region is central to its work and it has worked hard to develop them. PENHA is also part of the global movement of addressing global issues. It is part of the NGOs accredited to the first and subsequent sessions of the Conference of the Parties (COP) for the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD).
