What we do 2
We are an African-inspired and African-led international NGO founded in 1989 aimed at bringing sustainable livelihoods to the Horn pastoralist. We depend on the commitment of professionals and development workers from the Horn of Africa to address issues of pastoralist concerns from a regional perspective.
We deliver training, organisational development and empowerment of the pastoralist communities at country and regional levels. We also focus on capacity building for communities, civil society organisations and local ministries.
We do advocate for pastoralist livelihoods as a sustainable and productive way of life and put it as our long-term strategy. This includes awareness raising at all levels (community, policy, public sector level etc.) to change misconceptions and negative attitudes towards pastoralism by providing concrete, strong and holistic information and data.
Our main tool for influencing policy towards pastoralism and the design of development programmes is action-oriented research.
