Dr Zeremariam Fre contributed to The Open University’s learning resources about the important issues facing pastoralists and the work on PENHA for a newly launched module for October 2026. Dr Zeremariam highlighted the contributions pastoralists make, the current challenges they face, and future scenarios in the Horn of Africa in an extensive interview. Extracts from this interview were incorporated into the second-level university module DST216 Environment: inhabiting a changing planet, which forms part of the Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies. The module investigates how the planetary environmental crisis is making Earth less habitable, and whether its diverse inhabitants are equally affected.
In July 2025, Dr Zeremariam also gave a talk to the academics, researchers and postgraduate students at The School of Environment, Earth and Ecosystem Sciences of The Open University.
