Towards a national dryland restoration strategy – Ethiopia Dryland Restoration Platform (EDRP)

PENHA in collaboration with Tropenbos International is organising a three-day quarterly workshop ‘Towards a national dryland restoration strategy’ to be held from December 16th – 18th 2021 at Desalegn Hotel, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

This workshop builds on the work that we have done together to shape a draft National Drylands Restoration Strategy. Our Task Team Coordinators have put together four thematic papers, with input from Task Team members from across the country. In this workshop, we will:

  • Review the thematic papers (on NRM, livelihoods/value chains, land governance, policy coordination)
  • Incorporate comments and produce a draft strategy to be submitted to government

Further details and a workshop schedule will be shared before the workshop.

  • Day 1 will consist of presentations by Task Team Coordinators, followed by plenary discussions.
  • Day 2 will primarily consist of group work and expert presentations.
  • Day 3 will be devoted to drafting, led by task Team Coordinators.

The Ethiopia Dryland Restoration Platform (EDRP) was formed in April 2021 at the national workshop on ‘Dryland restoration and dry forest management – Sharing knowledge to meet local needs and national commitments’. This workshop which is expected to discuss the critical issues of dryland restoration is expected to bring policy-makers, regional and local administration representatives and experts. This would advance the joint commitment made on the Declaration in was made on a joint commitment to work towards a national dryland restoration strategy.

Furthermore, the PENHA-Tropenbos International joint book titled ‘Dryland restoration and dry forest management in Ethiopia: Sharing knowledge to meet local needs and national commitments – A review will be launched at the event. Please click the above link or the book cover below.
