On the 26th to 28th August 2021, the Ethiopia Dryland Restoration Platform (EDRP) will hold its first meeting at the Desalegn Hotel, Addis Ababa. The 30-strong task force will include representatives from federal government, universities, NGOs, and from the six main dryland regions: Afar, Amhara, Benishangul-Gumuz, Oromia, Somali and Tigray. The aim – to provide further inputs into the development of a national dryland strategy through four themes: livelihoods and markets, sustainable natural resource management, land tenure and governance, and policy alignment and knowledge management – and to bring these together into a first draft.

Task teams will meet again in October to finalize the strategy, that will be validated and presented to the Ethiopia Forest and Climate Change Commission in January 2022.
