Regional conference on enhancing cross-border cohesion and reconciliation among pastoral communities along the borders of Ethiopia, Eritrea and eastern Sudan

The regional conference was organised by the Pastoralist Environment Association in Kassala State (PEAKS) and PENHA and held in Kassala, Sudan on 4 January 2020. The conference was funded by Global Reconciliation’s Desmond Tutu Fellowship fund, with partial contributions from PENHA and in-kind support from PEAKS. PENHA was represented by its International Programme Coordinator, Rehab Jameel (far right of the photo above). This was an important opportunity to promote reconciliation efforts, given Kassala’s geographical location near the Eritrean border. Rehab also visited women’s cooperatives in eastern Sudan with PEAKS. Women’s participation remains a challenge  at the conference, female pastoralists represented 15% of the total participants, with male pastoralists at 31%
