Salt-Mine – Beyond freshwater generation

PENHA was selected to be part of a consortium brought together by the Belmont Forum. Funded by Sida, the project will assess the commercial viability of the integrated production of freshwater, horticultural produce and artisanal mineral extraction at the seawater greenhouse at Berbera, which has been producing tomatoes, cucumber and lettuce, as well as salt from the water desalination process. The National Research Foundation (NRF) in South Africa has just completed the due diligence process with PENHA for the project. For a brief note of the project, please visit the Norwegian Institute for Water Research website.

PENHA in collaboration with the Belmont Forum and other partners has started working in delivering the ‘Salt-Mine – Beyond freshwater generation: Mineral extraction from seawater desalination brine and seawater greenhouse farming‘ project in Somaliland. Please watch the short video.
